According to the World Health Organization, Americans consume more protein than just about any other nationality. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) stated by the Us Department of Agriculture (USDA) is 56 grams for men and 46 grams for women and keep in mind these are optional values not minimum values… So what does that look like? Well a 4 Oz. hamburger patty alone has 20 grams of protein and a 6 Oz. steak has 70 grams of protein. Now count all the other grams of protein you have eaten throughout the day and the average american eats 2 to 3 times the amount of protein that is recommended for them amount of protein that is recommended for them.
Want to live longer Eat less protein and eat more carbs. The longest lived people in the world get about 10% of their total calories from protein, here in the states we are at least double that if you have fallen victim to a “High Protein” diet like Atkins or Paleo you’re getting 40% to 50% of your calories from protein, Not good my friends.
Let’s look at Okinawa Japan as an example. They get the majority of their calories in the form of rice and yams, you know those Bad Nasty Carbs but they get just 7% of their calories from protein. So what do you say? Well they lived substantially longer than americans and have the world’s highest percentage of centenarians (People who live past 100) So am I saying you have to become a vegan and give up all animal protein? No, I’m not although this author did and I would highly recommend it. I would rather fruits and veggies and beans. Carbs in their natural state are not the enemy. No you will not get healthy eating potato chips but then again that is not carbs in their natural state, think of it this way, the “meat” you eat should not be daily.and should be the garish on days that you do eat it. In other words, it should not be the main item surrounded by a small supporting cast. It should be just the opposite.
Disease as we grow old is inevitable, it does not have to be a part of getting older. Your body given the right foods can heal itself of chronic illnesses like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and even cancer. Unfortunately, our medical community isd controlled by insurance companies and big pharma who prefer to treat the symptom not the cause.
What i’m saying is that when you eat the right way, the right amount right amount and kind of protein along either other macronutrients you will not only feel better, lose weight, if that is your goal but you will become the healthiest version of you that you can be.
